North Fork, Long Island NY

S1E6 – North Fork Long Island, NY

Last May 2023, Kerry and I visited Montauk NY. This time we headed to the North Shore of Long Island, NY and stayed at Wildwood State Park. Although it was a quick weekend visit, we took the opportunity to visit some of the favorite local spots in the area.

Being native Long Islanders, we were familiar with the area and have visited it before. However, it was a new experience camping with Our Itty Bitty RV and since we’ve done the South Shore – the North Fork of Long Island was the next logical location.

Not exactly the “Big Duck” energy we were expecting. In all honesty, it was a bit disappointing. At the time of our visit – early summer on a Saturday morning – the actual duck souvenir shop was closed. According to the hours posted, it was supposed to be open but such is life. All things considered, if you’re a native Long Islander and you’re out East – pay a visit, get your selfie, and enjoy the rest of your day!

Jerry and The Mermaid Pub & Restaurant

This place was a great find! We were originally going to have lunch in the Long Island Aquarium but we decided to find a local restaurant instead. Luckily we found Jerry and The Mermaid on our internet search. We found the the restaurant to be inviting and the staff to be extremely friendly.

The more we travel with Our Itty Bitty RV, the more we realize that our videos will be gravitating towards the people we meet and their stories. When we met Lynne at Jerry and the Mermaid, she was kind enough to share the tale of how they survived the pandemic. Everyone has a pandemic story and we’re glad she shared their story with us.

The last time we were at this aquarium was more than ten years ago when our college kids were middle school kids. In all honesty, it hasn’t changed much at all but it’s still a great place to bring the family! You can never go wrong with seal shows and shark tanks.
